This Nayarit seated female figure has a broad, naturalistic face with large circular eyes, a straight nose, and a slightly open mouth, with incised parallel lines across the crown of the head indicating hair; arm bands are rendered at the upper arms and traces of red and black pigment remain across the surface. The figure sits with legs extended forward and one hand raised to the chest, the body modeled with attention to volume and posture in the manner characteristic of Nayarit ceramic sculpture from the shaft tomb tradition of western Mexico. The piece is intact and comes from two documented collections.
