Neolithic Flaked Flint Core, France, Large Scale

$2,200.00

Flint
Neolithic period
Width 10 1/2"; Height 8 1/2"
Provenance: Alan Marcuson, London, UK

This large Neolithic flint core from France displays systematic flaking along its perimeter, with cortex remaining across much of the dorsal surface and a warm ochre and tan coloration characteristic of French flint deposits. At over ten inches across, the piece is substantially larger than most surviving examples of the type and retains an old inventory number on the surface consistent with a prior institutional or dealer collection. Cores of this scale were worked to produce usable flakes and blades and represent the foundational technology of Neolithic lithic production in western Europe.
