This Northwest Airlines travel poster promotes air service to Hawaii with a color photograph of a smiling hula dancer at a torch lit luau, Diamond Head rising across the water behind her. Photographic travel posters replaced illustrated designs at many carriers during the 1950s, using the immediacy of color film to sell the destination as a lived experience. The poster survives in original condition and reflects the postwar boom in commercial air travel that opened Hawaii to a wider mainland market.
