This octagonal metal locket contains a period photograph of a seated woman, housed beneath a circular glass window on the interior face, with an engraved floral and scroll design covering the exterior. The locket is of a type commonly produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and its provenance from A.W. Carter, longtime manager of Parker Ranch in Kamuela, connects it directly to the paniolo — Hawaiian cowboy — culture centered on the Big Island ranching community.
