$850.00

Pomo

California

Circa 1900

4" x 2 3/4"

Provenance: Diane Luther, NM

This globular Pomo coiled basket is covered allover in a bold checkerboard pattern, dark elements alternating with the natural willow ground in tightly spaced horizontal rows that follow the full curve of the form from base to rim. The coiling is even and close throughout, and the basket retains an old metal collection label numbered 30 on the interior. A single blue bead is present on the base, consistent with the Pomo tradition of incorporating beads as marks of value.
