This is the Pomp and Circumstance design from the menu series the artist Eugene Savage produced for the Matson Navigation Company between 1948 and 1956, used aboard the S.S. Lurline and at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The composition shows a ceremonial procession with feathered kahili standards and a robed chief in a red and gold cape, a line of dancers advancing below sharp blue green mountains. Drawn from the murals Matson commissioned from Savage in 1938, these menus rank among the most collected pieces of mid century Matson and Hawaiian tourist art, and Savage's work was recognized in the Smithsonian's American Lithographs exhibition in 1951.
