$5,800.00

Ancestral Pueblo / Southwest

1100–1275 AD

Ceramic with black-on-white mineral pigment decoration

Height 13 1/2 in (34.3 cm)

Width 16 in (40.6 cm)

Provenance: Private New Mexico collection

This large Reserve Black-on-white olla belongs to a Southwestern ceramic tradition associated with the Cibola region and related Ancestral Pueblo pottery groups. The rounded body and short neck create a substantial storage-vessel form, with black geometric decoration arranged across the upper body and shoulder. Its size gives the vessel a strong presence while preserving the compact visual language of Reserve Black-on-white pottery.

The painted design uses bold angular forms, stepped motifs, and framed geometric panels across the surface. These elements reflect the structured black-on-white design vocabulary of the period, where visual rhythm and surface organization were central to the vessel’s effect. As a large olla from a private New Mexico collection, it is a strong example of Southwestern ceramic form and decoration.
