The trunk is a low rectangular chest bound in wide iron straps that run over the lid and down the sides, the corners reinforced with angled plates and the whole finished in black. Drop handles hang from heavy iron plates at both ends, and a raised iron staple is set into the center of the lid where a lock or seal would have been secured. The front is stenciled in white capitals across three lines, THE RUSSIAN BANK FOR FOREIGN TRADE, with a number below.
The surface carries the wear of an object built for transport rather than display, the paint rubbed back to bare iron along the strap edges and the corners knocked and dented from handling. Several small circular holes are drilled through the front boards. Trunks of this type were made to move coin and currency between branches under seal, and the stenciled numbering indicates use within a series.
