This Santo Domingo necklace runs three strands of graduated turquoise heishi through stamped silver cones and barrel beads. The strands gather at a stamped silver bar set with a coral cabochon, which drops into a looped jacla finished with red spiny oyster tabs at the tips. The turquoise is cut and drilled into fine disc heishi, strung dense across all three strands.
The jacla began as a separate ear ornament and here hangs as a pendant drop below the coral set bar, a traditional Santo Domingo arrangement. The pueblo of Santo Domingo, now Kewa, is long known for heishi and stone bead work of this kind. The piece is signed by the maker on the silver.
Made by Nestoria Pat Coriz, a Santo Domingo (Kewa) artist working in heishi and silver, part of the Coriz family of Kewa jewelers known for fine stone bead necklaces.
