This Santo Domingo necklace is a Depression era piece strung with bone tube beads, hung with small inlaid tab drops and a central bird form pendant. During the 1930s, Santo Domingo artists worked with trade and salvaged materials such as celluloid and Bakelite, continuing Pueblo beadmaking through a period of economic hardship. The bird pendant is built up in mosaic from turquoise, red, black, and white set into a dark ground, giving it the recognizable Depression era Kewa character.
