Tom Williams is a Northwest Coast artist working in the tradition of formline design, a graphic system developed over centuries among peoples of the Pacific Northwest including the Haida, Tlingit, and Tsimshian. Engraved silver bracelets in this tradition translate the ovoid and U-form elements of monumental art into a wearable format, a practice that became well established among Northwest Coast silversmiths from the nineteenth century onward. Williams’ work follows these conventions closely, with clearly articulated formline elements depicting a stylized animal figure across the face of the cuff.
The bracelet is engraved in sterling silver with a composed formline design featuring ovoid eyes, U-forms, and subsidiary line work in the regional style. The piece is signed by the artist. Dimensions and weight are consistent with a standard wear cuff.
