Mint and archivally framed using the best of materials, this 1914 Donaldson lithograph advertises Charles H. Tompkins's Real Wild West and Frontier Exhibition. Tompkins, a Texas roper and rider, directed the Congress of Champion Ropers and Riders at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair. From 1913 to 1917 he and his wife ran the Real Wild West and Frontier Exhibition in combination with the Cooper-Whitby circus, closing at the outbreak of the First World War. The show blended aerial wire and acrobatic turns, trick bicycle riding and trained-animal acts into a mix of Wild West spectacle and European circus. Tompkins was a friend of the vaudeville performer and humorist Will Rogers. Rare.
