1970s
Sterling silver
Length 24 inches (61 cm)
59.06 grams
Provenance: Private collection, Las Cruces, New Mexico
The chain is worked in a byzantine link pattern, with each unit interwoven so that the rope reads as a continuous braided column rather than a series of separate rings. Decorated collar beads sit at each end above a hook clasp, and at nearly sixty grams the chain has a substantial drape and weight in the hand. The 24 inch length allows the chain to be worn alone or used to carry a pendant or a naja.
