West Mexico, probably Nayarit or Colima, 100 BC to 250 AD
Fired clay
Length 27 inches (68.6 cm)
Provenance: Private collection, Santa Fe, New Mexico
The strand is threaded with beads of fired clay in graduated sizes and alternating forms, flattened discs set between rounded spheres and short barrels, the largest gathered toward the center. The clay runs from pale buff through orange to a dark grey brown, unevenly fired so that no two beads match, and the surfaces are worn smooth with the perforations widened and softened at the edges from stringing. The stringing itself is modern.
