Yakima Beaded Moccasins, Antelope Hide, Sinew Sewn

$900.00

Yakima, Columbia Plateau

Circa 1890

Antelope hide with glass bead decoration, sinew sewn

Length 11 in. (27.9 cm)

Provenance: Wisconsin Trade

These Yakima moccasins are constructed from antelope hide using sinew sewing and decorated across the vamp and ankle cuff with dense multicolor beadwork in red, yellow, blue, white, and black, featuring geometric forms including triangles and diamond elements arranged in horizontal bands. The beadwork coverage and pattern complexity are notable for the period, and the antelope hide construction with sinew sewing indicates manufacture in the late nineteenth century when these materials remained standard in Plateau production. The Wisconsin Trade provenance reflects the active intertribal and commercial exchange networks through which Plateau objects moved into Midwestern collections during this period.
