The tray is worked in fine coiled grass in a long oval with shallow flaring walls and a loop handle rising at each end, the coils running unbroken from the base out to the rim. A band of stepped diamonds in red, black, and blue green runs around the outer wall above a row of paired chevrons, and a second lighter zigzag in pink and grey green sits below the rim, the colors laid in by substituting dyed grass into the stitching rather than by painting the surface. The natural grass has aged to a pale straw with the dyes still holding their tone in the shaded areas, and the coils are tight and even throughout with the handles firmly set.
