The tray is coiled in fine grass as a shallow oval with low walls and a twisted rope rim, a small loop handle rising at each end from the coils themselves. Four stepped triangles in red and dark brown are worked into the floor in a row down the length, each built from short blocks of dyed grass stitched into the coil, with small cross motifs set between them and a scattering of further blocks around the walls. The natural grass has aged to a warm straw with the red still strong and the dark reading almost black, and the coiling is tight and regular throughout with the rope rim complete.
