The rectangular face of the ring is inlaid with a standing figure in green turquoise set against a ground of black jet, with turquoise triangles filling the upper and lower corners. The figure and background are cut and fitted flush in the Zuni inlay technique, the black jet framing the turquoise form. Fine surface scratches are visible across the jet. In a US size 7 3/4 at 20.73 grams, it is a substantial ring built for wear.

John Gordon Leak, also known as John Leekity (1920–1970), was a Zuni jeweler known for figural inlay. He worked in the Zuni technique of setting colored stones against a black ground to form figures such as dragonflies, knifewings, and arrows. He worked among peers including Leo Poblano, Frank Vacit, Dan Simplicio, and Teddy Weahkee, and influenced other artists working in the style.
