This Zuni necklace strings black horn heishi in a single strand, broken by two inlaid barrel stations and a mosaic pendant at the front. Each inlaid element is set with a geometric block pattern of turquoise, coral, and other stones in a modernist arrangement. The pendant drops into three inlaid tabs, each striped with the same multicolor mosaic work.
The abstract, multicolor inlay departs from older single stone Southwestern jewelry, using blocks of contrasting color set flush in a mosaic field. The black horn beads carry the color across an otherwise dark strand, concentrating the inlay at the two stations and the pendant. At 24 inches with a 3 inch pendant drop, it wears as a contemporary statement necklace.
