Large-format photograph of Roosevelt, Arizona by Walter J. Lubkin, staff photographer for the United States Reclamation Service. Roosevelt was the supply and administrative hub for the construction of Roosevelt Dam — completed in 1911 as the first major dam built by the U.S. Reclamation Service and at the time the largest masonry dam in the world. Lubkin documented the town, surrounding farms and ranches, and the daily lives of workers and communities that grew up around the project, producing an invaluable visual record of the Salt River Valley before the dam's completion fundamentally altered the landscape. From a private collection in Utah.
